Introduction
Weiss Solutions LLC ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use the AskPip Chrome extension and website.
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
What We Collect
- Account information: Your email address when you sign up or sign in.
- Usage data: How you interact with the extension (features used, actions taken). Your email address is anonymized before being sent to our analytics service.
- Canvas account email: When you visit a Canvas page, AskPip reads your Canvas account email to pre-fill the sign-in form and link your account to your Canvas identity.
- Canvas course & assignment context: When you use AskPip on Canvas, it reads your course and assignment details (names, descriptions, rubrics, grades and scores, and your submission content) live and on demand to give you contextual help. We do not maintain a synced copy of your course list.
- Chat & document content: The messages you send, the AI responses you receive, and any images or documents you upload or create in the built-in editor - see "Content You Submit" below for full details.
How We Use Your Data
We use your account information and usage data to provide and improve AskPip, manage your account and subscription, and analyze product usage to fix bugs. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Content You Submit & What We Store
When you chat with AskPip, it constructs a prompt that may include your message and relevant Canvas context - the assignment description, rubric, and the text of your submission or work in progress. This prompt is sent to an AI provider for analysis.
The following are stored in our backend so you can pick up where you left off:
- Conversation history: Your messages, the AI's responses, its reasoning, and any tool calls AskPip makes on your behalf.
- Uploaded & created files: Images and documents you attach, and documents you create or edit in the built-in editor, are stored in our file storage so you can revisit them.
- Usage metadata: Which AI models were used, token counts, and cost - used to enforce plan limits and track usage.
Submitted content is never used to train AI models. AI providers process it solely to return a response, consistent with their API terms of service.
Data Security
All data transmitted between AskPip, our backend, and third-party services is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Authentication tokens stored locally on your device are managed by Chrome's secure storage APIs.
Third-Party Services
AskPip uses the following third-party services that may receive your data:
PostHog
We use PostHog for product analytics. PostHog receives anonymized usage data to help us understand how AskPip is used. Learn more
Convex
We use Convex as our backend database, file storage, and server platform. Your account information, subscription data, conversation history, and uploaded files are stored in Convex. Learn more
Fireworks AI
Your chat messages and the Canvas context included in your prompts are sent to Fireworks AI, to generate responses. This data is processed solely to return a response and is not used to train AI models. Learn more
Stripe
We use Stripe to process payments for paid subscriptions. Stripe may collect billing information (name, payment card details) directly from you. We do not store payment card information on our servers. Learn more
Cookies & Tracking
AskPip's website does not use cookies or tracking technologies. No analytics scripts run on this site.
The AskPip Chrome extension uses PostHog for anonymized product analytics (see Third-Party Services above). This runs inside the extension context and does not set cookies in your browser.
Data Retention
We retain your account information, conversation history, and documents for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.
Children's Privacy
AskPip is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
If you are under 18, you may use AskPip only with the permission and involvement of a parent or legal guardian, who must review and agree to our Terms of Service on your behalf. By allowing a minor to use AskPip, the parent or guardian consents to our collection and use of the information described in this Privacy Policy.
Student Data & FERPA
Some of the Canvas information AskPip reads at your direction - such as course enrollments, assignment submissions, grades, and instructor feedback - may be part of your education records under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). AskPip is a personal study tool that you choose to use: it accesses your own Canvas data only at your request, through your own Canvas session, and only to provide you with contextual help. It never accesses other students' records.
We treat all Canvas-derived data as confidential student information. It is never sold, never used for advertising, never used to train AI models, and is shared only with the service providers listed above as needed to operate AskPip. If you are a school or institution with questions about AskPip and student data, contact us at [email protected].
